Lyrics

SINGS HER HEART OUT
by Karen Robinson ©2016

She wears her clothes like armour, colours black and red
Wears no white that might invite a mark or stain. Instead,

She wears her smile to shield her. The smile won’t reach her eyes
Yet notes and rhyme reveal her. The stage is no disguise

She takes the mic from the stand, shifts her weight, lifts one hand
Draws a breath, takes command, and sings her heart out

Ooh she sings her heart out in pointed toes and leatherette, and yet,
She knows she shows her heart out. Eyes now soft

She knows the who, what, wheres, and whys, the pack of lies, the alibies
And the damning compromise. She dries her eyes

And takes the mic from the stand, shifts her weight, lifts one hand
Draws a breath, takes command, and sings. She sings
